Montpellier Science Politique (MSP) refers to the new entity created at the start of the 2022 academic year, which, within the University of Montpellier’s Faculty of Law and Political Science, brings together all political science programs. MSP thus succeeds the Department of Political Science, founded in 1999. This change marks a new stage in the development of political science in Montpellier, establishing MSP as one of the leading centers for political science education in southeastern France.
The program offered by the Faculty is, in fact, unparalleled in this region, featuring a Bachelor’s degree in political science (ISO 9001-certified since 2016), a dual Bachelor’s degree in economics and political science (the only one of its kind in France), two professional Master’s degrees, a research-oriented Master’s degree (other Master’s programs are currently being developed), and a doctoral program. MSP is thus one of the few universities in France (barely fifteen in total) to offer a comprehensive program in political science, from the first year of the Bachelor’s degree through the Ph.D.
The programs offered also boast particularly high success rates and strong job placement outcomes, and prepare students for a wide range of careers, including research, analysis and consulting, journalism, communications, international cooperation, and public policy evaluation, among others.
MSP has nearly 400 students and about 20 faculty members (including 11 tenured faculty): professors, CNRS researchers, lecturers, associate professors, assistant professors, doctoral students, and tutors.
His management team consists of Alexandre Dézé (chair of the political science section), Saïd Darviche (vice chair of the section), Sylvia Gonçalves-Buades (administrator), and Béatrice Piel (administrative manager). The Political Science Student Council (BDE) is also particularly active and plays a full-fledged role in the associative and intellectual life of MSP.
